Triple Update

Posted December 19, 2023

Yo. Been a bit quiet recently, because I’ve been pretty fucking burnt out. Been working more and more, but things are working out less and less, and that ain’t a good balance. Kid Bubblegum took a lot out of me, but it’s doing worse than Chibi Ninja Shino-kun, and that already didn’t do that well. Clearly, something isn’t working, and I just needed a break to breathe, assess the situation, and play some games instead of developing and/or stressing out about them.

But I’ve gotta keep pushing on, and so today, I’ve got three pieces of news for ya! So let’s go:

I’ve Released a New Game

Since releasing two full-fledged platformers in one year isn’t enough, I just put out another game: Jettycat! (Wonder why I’m so burnt out…)

It’s a browser game and meant to test the waters of that market, since it might serve as an additional pillar of my gamedev business. Browser games can be smaller, simpler, and don’t require you to wait for wishlists and the like, so you can be more spontaneous. That’s the crux of my issue, by the way: Since my games (and many others) make less and less money, I’d have to release more games in shorter intervals to make up for that… but if you don’t take the time to collect wishlists, do marketing, contact streamers etc. that game is gonna disappear in the drainage pipes of Steam almost immediately. So indie devs nowadays find themselves in a situation where they have to release more games in less time but they also have to spend more time on marketing.

And that just isn’t mathing.

So yeah, browser games might serve as a sort of stop-gap solution to fill the void while I’m doing the marketing push for my major PC and console releases. If you want to help make that happen, check out Jettycat now!

And speaking of console releases…

Chibi Ninja Shino-kun Console Development Has Begun

It’s been a long time coming, but porting work for Chibi Ninja Shino-kun is underway. I still don’t have a release date, but I expect it to ship on all major consoles within the first quarter of 2024. I’m also adding a bit more polish to the game, so you can look forward to that. I’ll keep you posted if there’s any news.

Go! Go! PogoGirl on Mega Drive Progress

My main man Space Pants Games is hard at work on that Mega Drive port of Go! Go! PogoGirl, and he’s making insane progress. If you don’t believe me, take a look for yourself:

Still no idea about a release date, a physical release, etc. but I just wanted to quickly show off the incredible work he’s been doing. He occasionally posts snippets of the game on his Twitter account, so make sure to follow him! And of course I’ll let you know if there are any big news. Believe me, I’d love a physical release just as much as you do, but I can’t promise anything right now.

And there we go, three projects thrown at the wall to see what sticks. Happy Holidays, my dudes!
